It is alleged that Osman Laçin, a medical student at Yeni Yüzyıl University in Istanbul, traveled to Russia after seeing "mercenary" advertisements on Discord and Telegram. His family, who have not heard from the young student for days, has issued a call to the authorities.

According to the family, Osman was directed to Russia by individuals he contacted through social media and messaging platforms. After being unable to reach him for some time, the family contacted the last people Osman had been in touch with.

In the correspondence held by the family, the other party claimed that Osman was in the city of Sochi and could later be deported to Turkey. However, the family stated that they were not sure whether the people they were speaking to were actually authorized officials.

Osman's relatives said that they are still able to contact the numbers Osman last communicated with via Discord, but that the identities of these individuals cannot be verified. The family stated, "We have serious doubts about whether the people we are dealing with are truly official authorities."

The family also alleged that they have had difficulty reaching official institutions in Turkey. According to the claims, the family has been unable to get results despite trying to reach the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey and relevant defense units. It was stated that Turkish and Russian consulates in Russia told the family that they could not intervene directly and that the matter should be discussed with defense authorities.

His relatives expressed deep concern for Osman's health and safety, stating, "We do not believe he made this decision entirely of his own free will."

According to the information obtained, it was learned that the plane carrying Osman Laçin departed from Istanbul Airport on 05.05.2026 at around 23:00 and landed in Sochi. It is alleged that Osman's father is Turkish and his mother is Moldovan; that he renounced his Turkish citizenship by obtaining a blue card and switched to Moldovan citizenship.

The family is awaiting support from the authorities to clarify the young student's fate and ensure his safe return to Turkey.
