Heartbreaking struggle for life in Çorum: 'The Akbaş family waits for a helping hand for their children'
The cries of 12-year-old Poyraz Efe and his little sister Umay, who are fighting for their lives in Çorum, are tearing hearts apart.
The cries of 12-year-old Poyraz Efe and his little sister Umay, who are fighting for their lives in Çorum, are tearing hearts apart. The Akbaş family, struggling with relentless illnesses and severe economic desperation, has issued a tearful appeal to philanthropists and authorities to help keep their children alive.
The lives of Seyit and Şükriye Akbaş, a couple living in Çorum, have turned into a nightmare due to their children's relentless illnesses. 12-year-old Poyraz Efe Akbaş, who has been battling spina bifida (open spine) since the day he was born, is fighting a desperate war on the thin line between life and death. The unfortunate child, who has already undergone 3 major surgeries with his tiny body, is now facing the risk of kidney failure. An urgent and uninterrupted treatment process is required to ensure that Poyraz Efe, who is racing against time, does not lose his kidneys.
''TWO FIRES IN ONE HOME: LITTLE UMAY IS ALSO FIGHTING FOR HER LIFE''
The drama of the Akbaş family is not limited to Poyraz Efe. The family's little daughter, Umay, is also struggling with serious, congenital health problems that have darkened her life. Little Umay, who has difficulty eating and suffers pain due to a dental condition, is waiting for the day she finds healing, just like her older brother. Unable to bear watching their two children wither away before their eyes, the mother and father are waiting in desperation for a helping hand.

''OUR ONLY WISH IS FOR OUR CHILDREN TO LIVE...''
Mother Şükriye Akbaş, whose world has gone dark, tearfully explained that she had to give up working entirely because she could not leave her children's bedside for even a moment: "We don't want property or wealth. Our only wish is for our children's pain to end and for them to regain their health. As a mother, I cannot bear to see my children wither away before my eyes," she cried out.
''DESPERATION HAS BROKEN THEM: THERE IS NEITHER A STEADY JOB NOR INCOME''
Father Seyit Akbaş, who has had to take frequent leave due to his children's struggle for life in hospital corners and therefore cannot hold down a steady job, has been left practically condemned to desperation. Unable to cope with the costs of treatment, medication, and travel and accommodation for trips to Ankara, the grieving father is seeking refuge in the conscience of philanthropists and the state.
''VOLUNTEERS HAVE TAKEN ACTION, A BEAM OF HOPE HAS EMERGED FROM THE CHIEF PHYSICIAN''
Aid volunteers, who did not remain silent to the heartbreaking drama of the Akbaş family, visited the family at their home and lit a beacon of hope. The volunteers announced that they would mobilize to cover the heavy treatment and accommodation expenses of the unfortunate Poyraz Efe in Ankara, stating: "We will never leave the family alone in this struggle for survival for Poyraz Efe."

On the other hand, an important step has been taken to alleviate little Umay's pain. Chief Physician Abdullah Paydaş, who personally intervened for Umay, who was taken to the Şehit Ömer Emiroğlu Dental Hospital, comforted the grieving mother and father by stating that all kinds of medical support would be provided to the family to the fullest extent.
''A CALL TO CONSCIENCE: LET US PROTECT THESE CHILDREN''
The volunteers who knocked on the Akbaş family's door emphasized that all of Turkey should take ownership of this home where two children are writhing in pain. Calling out to all philanthropic citizens, especially state institutions, the volunteers stated that the future of Poyraz Efe and Umay depends on the help of people with a conscience and issued an urgent call for support.
