High-ranking AKP official reveals: 'Presidential Government System' to be discussed at new constitution workshop

The fourth of the new constitution workshops, which the AKP government launched in October 2024, will be held tomorrow. The expectations of civil society and professional organizations will be heard at the workshop titled "Roadmap for a New Constitution".

AKP Deputy Chairman Responsible for Political and Legal Affairs Hayati Yazıcı made evaluations regarding the new constitution efforts.

According to Sözcü, AKP's Yazıcı stated that they are examining fundamental rights and freedoms in the new constitution, and regarding the subject of the workshop, he noted that "the formation of legislative and executive bodies, the relationships between legislative and executive bodies, and how the checks and balances mechanisms between legislative and executive bodies will be structured" will be discussed.

The most striking point in Yazıcı's statement was his remark that the Presidential Government System would be on the table at the workshop in question.

Yazıcı said, "Our 4th question that we will pose to the participating academics at the workshop is their views and suggestions regarding the Presidential Government System. Let's see what they will be able to express there. We want to remain a bit more silent on these issues and listen more to the participants and experts."
