Holiday restrictions on roads from Istanbul to Ankara: Ministry shares details

The Ministry of Interior has announced special measures for vehicles leaving major cities as part of the 2025 Eid al-Adha traffic regulations. The goal is to reduce traffic congestion, lower the risk of accidents, and ensure that citizens have a peaceful journey during the holiday period.

WHICH ROUTES ARE RESTRICTED?

From 16:00 on Wednesday, June 4, until 11:00 on Friday, June 6;

Ankara direction: On the O-4, O-7, D-100, and D-750 roads extending from Istanbul to Ankara

Izmir direction: On the O-5, D-200, D-260, and D-300 highways passing through Kocaeli, Bursa, Balıkesir, and Manisa

Antalya direction: On the D-650, D-200, D-260, and D-300 roads on the Sakarya, Afyon, and Isparta routes

trucks, tractor units, and tankers will not be permitted to pass.

WHICH TRANSPORTS WILL BE PERMITTED?

The Ministry has granted exemptions to ensure there are no disruptions in the supply chain for certain sectors. Accordingly;

Perishable foods (vegetables/fruits, meat, dairy products)

Medical supplies, medicine, packaged water products

Trucks, tractor units, and tankers carrying products such as live animals, flowers, mail, animal feed, and fuel will be able to pass on main arteries only if necessary for short periods or provided they use roads outside of the main arteries.

The Ministry's statement included the following remarks:

“In order to ensure that our citizens travel in peace and safety, to reduce potential traffic congestion, to prevent traffic rule violations by drivers, and to maintain public order and security…”
