Horrific confession from nephew: He killed his uncle and tried to make it look like he 'went on Hajj'

An unthinkable murder and cover-up plot have been uncovered in Adana. After Murat Açkan (61) had not been heard from by his family since March 20, his sister, Rahime Acar, filed a missing person report on June 28. Following the report, the Murder Bureau of the Public Security Branch, suspecting foul play, formed a special team and began searching for Açkan.

It was determined that Murat Açkan had traveled to his farm in the Ereğli district of Konya on March 20. Upon this discovery, detectives from the murder bureau reached out to the farm's owner, Fahri Demirdüzen (51). It was determined that while the farm actually belonged to Murat Açkan, it appeared on paper to be owned by Fahri. When Fahri Demirdüzen was questioned as a person with knowledge of the situation, he drew suspicion due to his contradictory answers.

HE CONFESSED TO KILLING HIM WITH A PISTOL

The murder investigators, suspicious of Fahri Demirdüzen, continued to probe the incident in depth. As a result of their research, they conducted a review of license plate recognition systems (PTS) and security cameras across the 200-kilometer area from Adana to the Ereğli district of Konya. Following these investigations, Demirdüzen was taken into custody.

Brought to Adana, Fahri Demirdüzen confessed during his interrogation that he had shot and killed his step-uncle, Murat Açkan, with a pistol and recounted the event. It was learned that the murder suspect is married to Murat Açkan's niece, Zeynep Demirdüzen, and is a father of two. Demirdüzen claimed that he was working on the farm and that his step-uncle, Açkan, insulted him by claiming that work was being neglected, after which the argument turned into a fight, and he alleged that he took the gun from his uncle's hand and killed him.

HE TOLD THE LIE THAT HE 'WENT ON HAJJ'

Fahri Demirdüzen stated that after killing his step-uncle, he stood over him for a long time and cried, and that no one else was on the farm when he committed the murder. Demirdüzen stated that when it got dark, he used a backhoe to dig the ground and buried his uncle 3 meters deep. Fahri Demirdüzen took his step-uncle Murat Açkan's mobile phone and drove to Adana in his own vehicle. He confessed that he went to the area where the house he stayed in was located with his murdered uncle's phone to ensure it pinged a local cell tower.

Fahri Demirdüzen came to Adana with his wife, Zeynep Demirdüzen, on March 23 under the pretext of 'changing the car's tire.' It was learned that upon arriving in Adana, Fahri told Rahime Acar, who is both Murat Açkan's sister and his own mother-in-law, that Açkan had gone on Hajj and would not return until the Feast of Sacrifice (Eid al-Adha). Demirdüzen then convinced the family that he had gone on Hajj by lying and claiming that his uncle had told him, 'You keep the car and drop me off in Adana.'

HE CONFESSED EVERYTHING

Fahri Demirdüzen's mother-in-law, Rahime Acar, who is also Murat Açkan's sister, went to the police 9 days after Eid al-Adha to file a missing person report. Following this, homicide detectives launched an investigation. During the investigation, police determined that Açkan had been murdered and that Demirdüzen had committed the crime.

Demirdüzen was subsequently taken into custody. During his interrogation, the murder suspect confessed to everything. Police went to Murat Açkan's farm in the Aziziye neighborhood of Konya's Ereğli district along with the killer. The killer, Demirdüzen, showed the police where he had buried his step-uncle. The body was recovered from where it was buried with the help of an excavator. The body was taken to the Konya Forensic Medicine Institute for an autopsy.

Following the autopsy, the body was brought to Adana and buried in the Kabasakal cemetery. The murder suspect, Demirdüzen, was referred to the courthouse after his procedures at the police station and was arrested by the court.
