Hotel fire in Beyoğlu: Extinguished following intervention

The fire broke out around 15:00 in the basement of a 6-story hotel located on Maç Çıkmazı in the Katip Mustafa Çelebi neighborhood of Beyoğlu. The fire, which started for an unknown reason, caused panic. Guests in the hotel rushed outside when the fire alarm sounded. Upon notification, numerous fire, medical, and police teams were dispatched to the scene. Police teams took security measures around the hotel. The fire was extinguished after a short intervention by the fire crews.

A cat trapped in the hotel was rescued by the fire crews. The cat, which was affected by smoke, was handed over to medical teams arriving from the Taksim Training and Research Hospital, located approximately 40 meters away. It was learned that the cat, which was given oxygen by the medical teams, is in good condition. While there were no injuries in the incident, the building sustained material damage.

"WE WERE EXPOSED TO A LOT OF SMOKE"

Ilgın Aydın, who was in the hotel during the fire, said, "We were on the first floor. I don't know exactly how it happened. The fire alarm started ringing. When the alarm rang, we looked outside. Everyone was in a panic. Then we tried to go downstairs immediately. The fire escape area was smoky. We were exposed to a lot of smoke. It was very dark. Then we started shouting for help. We made our way down. There were two of us. I was with my boyfriend. After we got out, there were people throwing themselves to the ground."
