HSK deems those statements 'political': Prosecutor who supported Ataturkist lieutenants exiled!

A decision of exile has been issued by the HSK against Prosecutor Mehmet Çağlayan, who supported the young lieutenants dismissed from the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK). 

The HSK reassigned Prosecutor Mehmet Çağlayan from Fethiye, where he was serving, to Giresun, exactly 1226 km away.

Reacting to the controversies surrounding the dismissal process of the lieutenants, Prosecutor Çağlayan had used the following expressions on his social media account:

“Our lieutenants who shouted this at the oath-taking ceremony have neither acted against the law nor committed any act of indiscipline.

Even the acceptance of a warning penalty is impossible.

If there are board members who are being pressured to impose a penalty, they should share this and resign."

Following the post, an investigation was launched into the prosecutor by the HSK.

“IT WILL CREATE THE MOST OPPRESSIVE AUTHORITARIAN SYSTEM IN HISTORY”

Testifying during the investigation process, Çağlayan said, "The fact that I am being accused and am giving a defense because of these words is the clearest and most dire indicator of how much freedom of expression and judicial independence in Turkey are under pressure. Being accused because of these words will create the most oppressive authoritarian system in history, where no human rights are accepted and no one has legal security in any matter."

RELOCATION PENALTY IMPOSED

According to the report by Alican Uludağ from Now Haber, at the end of the investigation, the HSK found Prosecutor Çağlayan's statement to be 'political' and imposed a relocation penalty.

Following the decision, the HSK reassigned Mehmet Çağlayan to the Giresun Public Prosecutor's Office, 1226 km away from Fethiye. Prosecutor Çağlayan has filed an objection against the penalty.
