İlber Ortaylı explains an unknown aspect of August 30: 'Gazi Pasha had requested 14 days...'

Historian and author Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı attended the talk titled "The Immortal Monument of the Idea of Freedom and Independence: The August 30 Victory" in Ankara.

Ortaylı met with the residents of the capital at the talk organized by the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality at Gençlik Park in honor of the August 30 Victory Day.

In his speech, Ortaylı stated that the republic is the element that binds the identity of the Turkish people and touched upon the importance of the August 30 Victory Day.

Ortaylı used the following expressions:

"The last of the August victories is August 30; it spans from August 26 to August 30, which is 4 days. The rest consisted entirely of chasing an army in retreat. Gazi Pasha had requested 14 days, and he said, 'It finished in 13 days, so we were off by one day.' The job was finished in 13 days."

Following his speech, Hacı Ali Bozkurt, General Coordinator of the ABB Department of Culture and Social Affairs, presented a painting to Ortaylı.
