İmamoğlu and Özel in Beykoz: 'When the 200 lira note was first issued, it could buy 500 loaves of bread...'

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and CHP leader Özgür Özel delivered speeches in Beykoz.

İmamoğlu touched upon the following points:

"We will build a city restaurant in Beykoz. This government issued the 200 lira note 14 years ago. 14 years ago, it was worth 130 dollars. Right now, it is worth 6.5 dollars. Where is 130 dollars, and where is 6.5 dollars?

The loss in value is more than 1200 percent. When the 200 lira note was first issued, it could buy 500 loaves of bread. Now it can buy 50 loaves. That is why we have increased social assistance in Istanbul sixfold.

In the new term, we will increase student dormitory capacity to 15 thousand.

Within one year, the Anadolu Hisarı-Kavacık metro line will be opened.

REMARKS ON KANAL İSTANBUL

They say it is not on the agenda, yet they hold tenders in secret. Kanal İstanbul will never be built.

I do not take what is not mine, and I will not let anyone else's rights be taken. I would rather lose ten or a hundred elections than deceive the people of Istanbul even once. But they incorporate lies, deceit, and slander into their work."

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, in his speech following İmamoğlu, included the following remarks:

"They wanted to take the election from us through trickery. It didn't happen, and it won't happen.

Ever since Ekrem became the Mayor of Istanbul, Mr. Tayyip cannot fly over Istanbul in a helicopter. You talked about Kanal İstanbul, your leader talked about it. Ekrem stopped this project of betrayal. If it hadn't been Ekrem, but rather Erdoğan's candidate Binali, all the remaining land would have been gone. They would have built Kanal İstanbul and sold every part of it to the Qataris."
