According to Nefes Newspaper columnist Nuray Babacan, some AKP members commented, "Strange things are happening. We need to investigate thoroughly who this operation is really against."

The relevant part of Babacan's article titled "The 'trap' suspicion of anxious AKP members" is as follows:

"While the operation against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, the preparations underway against the CHP, and the attempts to pressure and silence opposition media, companies, and individuals are being served as a package, there are those among AKP staff who are uncomfortable with these developments and complain about learning of every decision from the screen.

If we exclude the trolls, they are looking at the issue from the perspectives of the economy, foreign policy, the reconciliation process, and the damage to the climate of trust and investment. They argue that even if the operations against İmamoğlu and the CHP result as planned, Turkey will lose a great deal.

Here are some of these anxieties behind closed doors;

- “Strange things are happening. We need to investigate thoroughly who this operation is really against. There have been attempts that smelled of conspiracy before. One of them was the Pastor Brunson incident. It caused irreparable damage to Turkey-US relations. A secret witness appeared at that time. We had examined the file; the accusations were empty. Turkey lost a lot both economically and politically. We saw a lot of harm from that operation carried out at that time.

- Even if the files are substantial, you cannot convince anyone at this point that this is not political. Especially by including the diploma issue in this, the subject has been completely trivialized. At that time, there were those who switched from our friends; it was an easy path back then. There were those who chose it. If there is a legal problem, you hold those who granted this right accountable, not the one who received the diploma…

- You wake up one morning and find all of this in front of you as if a button had been pressed. But why now? Why did you wait until today? Why didn't you object to the lawlessness before this?

- No one within the party knew about these developments. It was not discussed in any authorized body. All politicians saw it on the screen. Guessing is one thing, being informed about all the processes is another. Everyone found this in their lap…

- Then you are forced to take a position and make a statement about it. My only request is that the allegations in these files are true. Otherwise, we cannot convince anyone. At the end of the day, we end up in the position of a government that conducts operations against its political rival…

- It is strange in every respect. If we try to ask ‘What is happening?’ and investigate, you are looked at askance. We are trying to get information from lower levels. There is no proper flow of information within the party. Everyone is asking each other ‘What is really happening?’…

- At this point, there is difficulty in implementing all the decisions taken regarding the fragile economy. Our image abroad has been damaged. There is an effort to ensure the reconciliation process is not affected, but hesitation has formed in everyone. Correct steps and projects are being affected by this chaotic environment. More sensible decisions should be made and cool-headed steps should be taken…”
