İmamoğlu explains how he transferred to Istanbul University

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu explained in a YouTube program he attended how he transferred from the university he was studying at in the TRNC to Istanbul University.

Stating that his grades were very good while studying in the TRNC, İmamoğlu expressed that he applied to Istanbul University and was placed in the Faculty of Business Administration.

İmamoğlu noted that during the period he applied, it was possible to transfer from a university in the TRNC to a university in Turkey, a right that continued for 3 years at that time before being abolished, and that such transfers are not possible now. He also pointed out that there were no private universities in Turkey at that time.

Stating that he was placed in the Istanbul University Faculty of Business Administration after applying from the university in the TRNC, İmamoğlu mentioned that he had a busy professional life throughout his university years.

Ekrem İmamoğlu said the following on the program:

“My grades were good, thank God, and I applied to Istanbul University. This transfer process was already in place for 3 years during that period, and then it was canceled. You still cannot transfer now.

Either they adjust the equivalency according to the geography there, or it was included in the university entrance scores. It wasn't included back then. Also, the status of private universities had not yet entered Turkey. We applied, transferred, and I came to Istanbul.

Istanbul University Faculty of Business Administration. A busy professional life began for me during my university years. I engaged in trade. I became involved in the construction business, which was my father's work. I even became the manager of my own business.

I opened those famous meatball shops. I had incredible work, incredible work hours during that time. Still, I couldn't sit still. I started playing football both in the faculty and on the university team.”
