İmamoğlu invites Erdoğan to Ramadan tent: 'After iftar, we can also...'

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu made statements regarding the current agenda.

Speaking to Nefes Gazetesi, İmamoğlu invited AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to meet for iftar.

Responding to the question, "Would you consider inviting the President to a Ramadan tent in Istanbul to break the fast with the public?", İmamoğlu stated the following:

"I have invited him to so many places... To discuss both the painful problems of this country and the painful traumas of this city, to discuss these difficulties and unlawful practices, if the President were to say, 'I am inviting Ekrem İmamoğlu to Ankara,' would I not go? Of course I would go. After all, he is the President of the country.

I would share every issue with him. I requested an appointment to meet with him and for him to hear the thoughts of someone who has served as the İBB Mayor regarding Istanbul, as the President. I had visited him before the 2019 election.

After that, I conveyed that I wanted to discuss a few issues with him in person. Esenler Mayor Tevfik Göksu acted as an intermediary for the appointment.

He told us to renew our request, and we did. Not a sound. He is the one who does not want to meet. If you are going to make a headline out of this, let me say it; I am inviting him.

Let him come, let us sit with the public in a Ramadan tent in the most beautiful square of Istanbul, and let us have our iftar. After iftar, we can go wherever he wants, drink our tea and coffee. Let us discuss the tragic problems of the country. I am inviting him."
