Imamoglu lashes out at the reassignment of the judge! 'Your mask has long since fallen'

CHP presidential candidate and IMM President Ekrem Imamoglu, who has been detained in Silivri Prison since March 23, reacted to the reassignment of the judge who had stated that he "should be acquitted of all charges" in the case against him.

Making a statement on his social media account through his lawyers, Imamoglu asked, "Where is justice? Where is judicial independence?"

"JUDGES' CONSCIENCES ARE BEING PUNISHED"

Stating that "this is not the first time," Imamoglu said that judges who make decisions based on their conscience are being punished. Asking, "Is this your understanding of justice?" Imamoglu stated, "Can one speak of a fair trial in a place where judges are removed from their posts because of the decisions they make with their conscience?"

Here is Imamoglu's post:

"Where is justice? Where is judicial independence?

A judge who opposed the sentencing against me in a fabricated file, where it is crystal clear that there was no insult, has been removed from the high criminal court and sent to a labor court.

Moreover, this is not the first time.

Every judge who stands for rights, law, and truth, and who decides with their conscience, is being punished. Is this your understanding of justice? Can one speak of a fair trial in a place where judges are removed from their posts because of the decisions they make with their conscience?

Your mask has long since fallen.

No one should tell the fairy tale of judicial independence or the story of a fair trial anymore. Neither conscience nor justice can emerge from a system where judges are punished to set an example.

But do not forget; the scales of justice will balance sooner or later. When that day comes, no one will be able to escape being held accountable for their actions.

FOR EVERYONE

EVERYWHERE

JUSTICE FIRST!

FREEDOM FIRST!"

WHAT HAPPENED?

Ekrem Imamoglu was sentenced to 1 year and 8 months in prison for 'publicly insulting a public official due to their duty' and 'threatening' regarding his remarks directed at Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akin Gurlek. The court had acquitted him of the charge of 'targeting individuals involved in the fight against terrorism.' Associate Judge Mehmet Can Kozan had filed a dissenting opinion to the verdict, stating that Imamoglu should be acquitted of all charges. Judge Kozan was reassigned from the Istanbul 14th High Criminal Court to the Istanbul 45th Labor Court.
