İmamoğlu makes statement on events in Van: 'Unacceptable'

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu has made a statement regarding the decision in Van to replace DEM Party mayoral candidate Abdullah Zeydan, whose right to be elected was revoked, with AKP candidate Abdulahat Arvas, who lost the election by a margin of 130 thousand votes. 

"THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE"

Sharing on his X account, İmamoğlu stated, "Not granting the certificate of election to the DEM Party candidate who was elected as the Van Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, based on a decision that legal experts find entirely unlawful, is a failure to recognize the will of the people of Van.

This is unacceptable. We must all react together against the overshadowing of elections by politically motivated judicial decisions and take a stand in favor of democracy," he said. 

Emphasizing that the supremacy of the national will is one of the most fundamental values of the Republic, the IMM Mayor wrote, "I invite the government and the court panels to abandon their attitudes of recent years and to respect the will of the people, which is the primary and greatest will."
