Imamoğlu proposes 'earthquake council'! 'It must be implemented'

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem Imamoğlu, who is currently detained at the Marmara Prison in Silivri, made statements regarding the earthquakes that occurred in Istanbul. Stating that IMM teams are on duty in coordination with all state institutions, Imamoğlu noted that the Istanbul Earthquake Council proposal should be put into action.

Imamoğlu used the following expressions in his message:

Now that my lawyer has arrived, I can express my feelings regarding the earthquake that occurred.

My greatest sorrow is not being with you on this difficult day as an administrator and urban planner who has dedicated his life to disaster-oriented planning for Istanbul and has fought for this cause.

It is gratifying that there were no negative incidents in the initial assessments. All our IMM teams are on alert and on duty in coordination with all state institutions.

The struggle regarding the Istanbul earthquake is a major existential struggle that transcends all our institutions. The earthquake issue is a much bigger matter than winning elections or the ambition for office. For this reason, we urgently need unity, togetherness, solidarity, and common sense.

We have had various proposals to work together with the central government on the fight against earthquakes.

On this occasion, I would like to remind you again; from urban transformation to infrastructure and superstructure reinforcements, from green spaces to transportation, from the protection of nature to urban development principles, and from financing to cooperation with all institutions, a large-scale study covering Istanbul and its surrounding region is a necessity.

With a sense of national and international mobilization, our Istanbul Earthquake Council proposal must be implemented.

By keeping Istanbul away from betrayal projects like Kanal Istanbul and similar ones, we must quickly prepare for the Istanbul Earthquake and its consequences, which are an existential problem for our state and nation.
