İmamoğlu reacts to new courtroom project: 'A difference in mentality'

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu harshly criticized the new courtroom project in Silivri in a statement made from the Marmara Prison. Reacting to the emphasis on the 'largest courtroom in Europe,' İmamoğlu shared two photos, stating that justice is measured not by size, but by mentality.

Addressing the public from the Marmara Prison, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu evaluated the large-scale courtroom project implemented by the government in Silivri. Opposing the narrative surrounding the project as the 'largest courtroom in Europe,' İmamoğlu stated that justice cannot be measured by the size of the venue.

In his statement, İmamoğlu took a jab at the government, saying, ''They are building the 'largest courtroom in Europe.' Has justice ever come out of large courtrooms? Is this something to be proud of? I think Erdoğan and the Minister of Justice should open it together immediately; it would suit them very well. They should open it right away.''

Stating that the same budget could be used in different areas for the benefit of citizens, the İBB Mayor cited investments made in Bahçelievler as an example. Reminding the public of the National Sovereignty Stadium, which was opened to the public on April 24, İmamoğlu pointed out that comprehensive services were provided to the region, including a parking lot, nursery, sports and social facilities, İSMEK courses, and study workshops. He emphasized that these investments created significant value for Bahçelievler.

Touching upon the difference in approach between the ruling power and the municipal administration, İmamoğlu used the phrase, 'This is exactly what a difference in mentality is. Our nation is aware of this, and that is the reason for their panic,' and shared the same message with his followers on his social media account.

Mayor İmamoğlu's statements have once again sparked debate regarding the prioritization of public projects. The shared message emphasized that the size of justice facilities is not what matters, but rather that existing resources should be used for the benefit of the citizens.
