Imamoglu's sharp reaction to TRT: 'You'd think it's the Chief Public Prosecutor's Agency'
Ekrem Imamoglu, who reacted to the minutes-long reading of "slanderous" statements targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) and Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) in reports broadcast on TRT, stated that public broadcasting has lost its impartiality.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and presidential candidate Ekrem Imamoglu directed sharp criticism at the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) in a post on his social media account.
Stating that in a report broadcast on TRT, prosecutor's statements were read for minutes, followed by reports containing "slander and misinformation" about the Istanbul and Ankara Metropolitan Municipalities, Imamoglu said that TRT has strayed from its line of impartiality.
In his post, Imamoglu used the phrase, "You'd think it's not TRT, but the Chief Public Prosecutor's news agency."
Ekrem Imamoglu, who also renewed his call for the lawsuit filed against him to be broadcast on TRT screens, shared the following:
"When I turned on the television yesterday morning to start the day, I came across some TV channels, primarily TRT, which I have boycotted and not watched for years. While switching between channels, I happened to stop and follow when I saw a slanderer's statement being read word for word on the TRT-Turk channel.
This statement was read out clearly for minutes; you'd think it's not TRT, but the Chief Public Prosecutor's news agency!
Then, by slapping the CHP label on it, they presented two reports full of slander and misinformation against the IBB and ABB.
While watching this immoral attitude for about ten minutes in the morning, I remembered that our state's channel, which survives on the taxes of 86 million people, has become a prisoner to the power ambitions of a handful of people. Thinking about the miserable and disgraceful level at which the broadcasts are made, I was once again saddened by the state of this ancient institution.
I wish for our nation to specifically punish TRT and boycott it by not watching.
I suggest that all our opposition deputies under the roof of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) condemn TRT in every environment and speech and expose this biased attitude.
Those who spend billions of dollars in resources transferred from the taxes of retirees, workers, civil servants, farmers, and the unemployed on the greed, ambition, and seat-seeking of a handful of people are clearly eating into the public's rights.
Anadolu Agency has also been a part of the same pollution since 2019. While I convey my heartfelt love to the hardworking staff of TRT and Anadolu Agency, I condemn all the management staff appointed by politics.
Despite all this, I say:
I DARE YOU. Do something good for once. Judge this political operation, for which a handful of people are making our nation pay the price, very quickly in a live broadcast on TRT! Let us be held accountable to the nation in the presence of our nation!"
Dün sabah güne başlarken televizyonu açınca, yıllardır boykot edip izlemediğim başta TRT olmak üzere bir kısım TV kanallarına denk geldim. Kanallar arası geçiş yaparken tesadüfen TRT-Türk kanalında bir iftiracının ifadesinin kelime kelime okunduğunu görünce durdum ve takip ettim.…
