İmamoğlu visits Galatasaray: First comment from Dursun Özbek on Murat Kurum photo

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu visited Galatasaray.

"I WISH THE MAYOR SUCCESS"

Following the meeting, both individuals made statements to the press.

Özbek said the following:

"Our relations with the Mayor are very good. He has provided intense support to Galatasaray. The first half of 2024 is a period marked by elections and competitions. The municipal elections are on March 31, and after that, there is the championship race. The championship race attracts as much public interest as the municipal elections. Galatasaray also has elections in May. I wish the best for Istanbul during this period, and I wish the Mayor success." 

"MAY THE BEST TEAM WIN"

Ekrem İmamoğlu stated, "We had a productive conversation. We have been in constant communication with our three major clubs, which are very important brands for Istanbul. Istanbul is a global brand; I said the same when I visited Fenerbahçe. The sporting success of the clubs makes us very happy. These three clubs are not just football teams; they are clubs with a special position in social life. Of course, there are sporting rivalries, and sometimes there can be pointed conversations. As long as these are enjoyable, there is no problem. This year, two of our teams are in the race; I hope the result is good. May the best team win."

"I HAVE NOTHING TO EXPRESS"

Özbek was also asked about his remarks during the visit of AKP's İBB candidate Murat Kurum, where he called him "a chance for Istanbul," and the photo taken with Kurum. In response to the reporter's question, "Are you revealing your political colors?", Özbek replied:  

"Something else needs to be said regarding the intent of the question. I expressed my gratitude for the period of over a year and a half during which I have been president. Galatasaray's views are in this direction. I also attended the invitation of the honorable president (Murat Kurum) regarding the photos. I have nothing to express there."
