Imamoglu's advisor shares post regarding the 'Fool Case': 'This is the true summary'

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu was sentenced to 2 years and 7 months in prison in the case where he was tried for allegedly calling members of the Supreme Election Council (YSK) 'fools.'

The Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had applied to the Istanbul Regional Court of Justice to obtain information about the status of the file but received the response that a decision had not yet been made.

Murat Ongun, advisor to IMM Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, shared important details regarding the case in a post on his social media account. Ongun emphasized that despite 3 separate expert reports, Imamoglu was portrayed as if he had insulted YSK members.

CLAIMS STIRRED THE AGENDA

Claims by journalist Talat Atilla that the prison sentence given to Imamoglu had been upheld by the appellate court and that Imamoglu would be unable to engage in politics for 5 years had stirred the agenda.

Journalist Zafer Sahin, on the other hand, had announced that Ministry of Justice officials denied the claim in question.

Stating that "it is useful to remember the facts instead of the claims regarding the case," Ongun made a post regarding the process.

Ongun's post is as follows:

"-IMM Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu was portrayed as if he had insulted YSK members despite 3 separate expert reports.

-4 of the YSK members informed the court that they were not the "victims" of Imamoglu's words. The other members did not participate in the case at all despite being notified.

-The trial process began, and after a while, the judge of the Local Court where Ekrem Imamoglu was being tried was changed.

-The Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) did not investigate the allegations that the court judge was "threatened to sentence Imamoglu." A new judge was appointed in place of the judge who was reassigned to Samsun, contrary to established practice.

The new judge quickly concluded the trial and issued a decision for a prison sentence and a political ban. In the hastily taken decision, the duration of the requested prison sentence was mistakenly written as too long. The prison sentence was corrected to 2 years, 7 months, and 15 days. The decision was sent to the Court of Appeal.

-While the file was waiting in line to be examined at the Court of Appeal, the Court of Appeal panel was also changed.
