IMM AKOM releases Marmara region rainfall and storm report: '12 instances of ponding, 10 fallen trees...'

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) reported that between 15 and 50 kilograms of precipitation per square meter fell in different parts of the city, and that 5 people stranded by a creek in Çatalca, where rainfall reached 75 kilograms, were rescued.

In the report shared by AKOM, it was stated, "As a result of the heavy rainfall that has been effective across the province since the early morning hours, between 15 and 50 kilograms of precipitation per square meter were recorded in different parts of Istanbul, while this value reached 75 kilograms in the forested areas of Çatalca. The highest rainfall was observed in our Çatalca, Arnavutköy, Sarıyer, Eyüp, and Büyükçekmece districts."

The report noted that the rainfall, which is continuing lightly across the city, will leave the region in the coming hours, and that temperatures, which have currently dropped to the 8-11 degree range, are expected to rise again starting tomorrow, reaching around 25 degrees and summer levels throughout the new week.

INCIDENTS RESPONDED TO BY TEAMS

The report stated that IMM teams, standing by against potential negative effects due to heavy downpours, rain, and storms, carried out intervention efforts in line with reports received from across the province with 3,320 personnel and 1,717 vehicles and pieces of heavy equipment.

The report, which also included the locations where problems occurred, stated, "5 people who were stranded by the creek due to the rising of the Binkılıç Creek following heavy rainfall at the Ahmetpaşa Street location in the Karacaköy neighborhood of Çatalca were rescued by the fire department and the Istanbul Fire Department Underwater Search and Rescue (İSAK) teams."

The Istanbul Fire Department also shared footage of the rescue of the stranded individuals on its social media account.

On the other hand, the report stated that due to the rainfall affecting the city, there was flooding at the Yenibosna station of the M9 Ataköy-Olimpiyat Metro Line, and a collapse occurred in the retaining wall of a building's garden in the Cumhuriyet neighborhood of Küçükçekmece.

According to the report, 12 instances of ponding, 10 fallen trees, 5 cases of flooding, 3 road collapses, and 2 landslides were also responded to.
