Arrest requests for 8 people in IMM corruption investigation
Arrest has been requested for 8 of the 17 people detained in the corruption investigation at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM). It was announced that new evidence has emerged in the investigation, which includes charges of "bribery," "extortion," and "rigging of tenders" against individuals including Ekrem İmamoğlu.
The 17 suspects detained in the corruption investigation targeting the IMM were referred to the courthouse. While 9 of the 17 people were referred to the Criminal Judgeship of Peace with a request for judicial control, arrest was requested for 8 of them.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Following the emergence of new evidence in the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into suspects including Ekrem İmamoğlu—who was removed from his post as IMM Mayor following his arrest—on charges of "being a leader of a criminal organization," "being a member of a criminal organization," "extortion," "bribery," "qualified fraud," "unlawful acquisition of personal data," and "rigging of tenders," 18 additional suspects had been identified.
An operation was carried out by teams from the Istanbul Financial Crimes Investigation Bureau to apprehend the suspects, for whom detention warrants had been issued on charges of "giving bribes," "receiving bribes," and "rigging of tenders." 17 suspects were apprehended in the operation.
