IMM issues disinformation warning: 'Claims against İmamoğlu are untrue'
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has announced that it will combat misinformation circulating on social media regarding Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) has issued a statement regarding misinformation circulating on social media concerning the detention of Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. The IMM stated that certain social media accounts and media outlets are deliberately spreading false information and indicated that these campaigns are being managed from a single center.
The statement emphasized that allegations claiming İmamoğlu engaged in corruption ranging from 250 billion to 560 billion liras do not align with the facts. The IMM reminded the public that 'it is clear that those making these claims are unaware that the IMM's 2025 budget is 564 billion liras,' noting that the municipality uses this budget to fund water, transportation, metro, and infrastructure investments, as well as to pay the salaries of 95 thousand employees.
The IMM stated that these allegations are intended to discredit an elected mayor, using the words, 'We invite all parties to refrain from baseless, immoral, and politically motivated claims.' The statement concluded with the words, 'Our fight against disinformation will continue.'
