IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu announced: 'Evacuations are underway in neighboring buildings in Küçükçekmece'

One person lost their life and 8 others were injured in the 3-story building that collapsed in the Kartaltepe neighborhood of Istanbul's Küçükçekmece district.

IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who arrived at the scene, stated that the person who lost their life was a citizen of Turkmenistan and said the following:

"EVACUATIONS ARE UNDERWAY IN NEIGHBORING BUILDINGS"

"An illegal floor, like 1.5 stories, had been added. There are no complaints or reports in the municipality's records.

Since it dates back to 1988, the public is aware of the construction techniques of that day. When you look at the column and beam structure there, you can see the poor workmanship in buildings from the 70s and 80s.

9 of our people were trapped under the rubble here. We lost 1, and 8 are injured.

Our examinations are currently ongoing, and evacuation procedures are being carried out in the nearby neighboring buildings.

As quickly as possible, if there are any areas in that region that have not been scanned, action will be taken immediately.

At the end of the day, the earthquake issue is something waiting at our doorstep. This issue in Istanbul is a significant one. It requires demonstrating a strong will from a single source.

If we continue at this speed, we cannot finish in 40-50 years. I would like to announce that we would be soldiers of such an initiative. The Ministry would be the authority on this matter, and we would be a stakeholder."

Once again, we wish God's mercy upon the Turkmenistan citizen who lost their life. We wish a speedy recovery to those who remain and those who are injured."
