IMM sets new entrance fee for Basilica Cistern at 1 TL
During his presentation of the activity report at the IMM Assembly, IMM Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan highlighted the restoration revolution carried out by IMM Heritage with figures, while also expressing his reaction to the transfer of the Basilica Cistern to the General Directorate of Foundations. Aslan stated, "We restored it, we took care of it. Now they are telling us to vacate it in 15 days. Against this illegality, starting today, we are setting the Basilica Cistern entrance fee for Turkish citizens at only 1 TL."
Following the transfer of the Basilica Cistern from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and its subsequent registration under the ownership of the General Directorate of Foundations, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality had announced that it would "exercise all its legal rights regarding the aforementioned transfer of ownership." Today, the IMM CHP Assembly group announced the new entrance fee for the Basilica Cistern.
In a statement made on its social media account, the IMM CHP Assembly Group announced that the new entrance fee is 1 TL and included the following remarks:
"We have set the entrance fee for the Basilica Cistern, one of Istanbul's most important historical heritages, at 1 TL for citizens of the Republic of Turkey.
With this practice, implemented to make our cultural heritage accessible to everyone and to bring this unique structure together with more people, we invite all our citizens to explore the Basilica Cistern."
