Imprisoned Can Atalay on the current agenda: "Our stark reality is that we are a country without a Constitution"

Hatay MP Can Atalay, who remains imprisoned despite Constitutional Court rulings, issued a statement regarding the "absolute nullity" decision against the CHP and the evacuation of the party's Headquarters by police force. Atalay emphasized that these events target the entire social opposition.

Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) Hatay MP Can Atalay, who is imprisoned in Silivri Prison, criticized the judicial and administrative interventions developing around the CHP with harsh words in a statement on his social media account. Stating that the decisions taken bind not just one party but the entire country, Atalay said, "The essence of the process is 'I will not allow my power to be questioned'."

"EVEN IF THE DECISIONS ARE ABOUT THE CHP, THEIR SCOPE GOES BEYOND THE CHP"

Noting that judicial decisions are being made to monitor and manage politics through the "judiciary and administration," Can Atalay stated that a two-pronged strategy is being implemented and used the following expressions:

"Our stark reality is that we are a country without a Constitution. Those who do not comply with Constitutional Court rulings are calling on society to comply with judicial decisions. Those who see power as their own property are striving to make arbitrariness dominant in every field, including the judiciary, for the continuity of their power... They are following the path of 'I will open space for those who do not question my power, and I will go after those who aspire to power until they submit.' For this reason, even if the decisions are about the CHP, their scope goes beyond the CHP and concerns our entire political and social life."

"HOW WILL THE CITIZEN DETERMINE THE GOVERNMENT THROUGH ELECTIONS?"

Expressing that intervening in politics through the judiciary will cripple the will of the people, Atalay asked these critical questions in his statement:

"If politics is intervened in through the 'judiciary', how will the citizen determine the government through elections, which are already limited? How will the citizen use their democratic rights and freedoms, including the search for a new government, how will they organize, and how will they be effective in the life of the country?"

"WE WILL TAKE THE CONSTITUTION OFF THE SHELF AND STAND UP FOR THE LAW"

Expressing that the solidarity shown by the social opposition is promising and that only a firm stance by citizens can stop this dangerous course, the Hatay MP concluded his message with these words:

"I believe that the social opposition will stand against attempts to regulate politics through bureaucratic games, stalling, pacification, gaining time, and de facto situations, in a spirit of solidarity, resilience, persistence, and patient unity. We will overcome these days together with solidarity. We will take the Constitution off the shelf and stand up for the law and institutions again. We will continue our march toward an equal and free Turkey by democratizing our Republic."

Administrative, judicial... all means are being used in a way that ignores the Constitution, laws, and rules, and a two-pronged strategy is being implemented. They are following the path of 'I will open space for those who do not question my power, and I will go after those who aspire to power until they submit.'

For this reason, even if the decision/s are about the CHP, their scope goes beyond the CHP and concerns our entire political and social life. If politics is intervened in through the 'judiciary', how will the citizen determine the government through elections, which are already limited?

How will the citizen use their democratic rights and freedoms, including the search for a new government, how will they organize, and how will they be effective in the life of the country? The solidarity shown by the social opposition against the decision is promising. What will put a stop to this dangerous course is the firm stance that citizens, and all social and political organizations and movements, will show. The democratic citizen mobilization that has existed since March 19, 2025, is important; it is the anchor point.

I believe that the social opposition will stand against attempts to regulate politics through bureaucratic games, stalling, pacification, gaining time, and de facto situations, in a spirit of solidarity, resilience, persistence, and patient unity.
