Increase in retail sales boosts trade volume
According to TUIK data, the total trade sales volume increased by 1.7 percent annually in March 2026, with the 21.2 percent rise in the retail sector being the decisive factor in this growth.
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) has released the Trade Sales Volume Index data for March 2026. According to the released data, the total trade sales volume showed an increase of 1.7 percent in March 2026 compared to the same month of the previous year.
When sectoral changes are examined, it was observed that the retail trade sales volume achieved the highest growth, increasing by 21.2 percent annually. In contrast, there was a 10.3 percent decline in the trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles group, and a 3.5 percent decline in wholesale trade sales volume.
TRADE SALES VOLUME RECORDED A 1.9 PERCENT INCREASE ON A MONTHLY BASIS
When the trade sales volume is examined compared to the previous month in March 2026, it increased by 1.9 percent in total. During this period, wholesale trade sales volume increased by 2.4 percent, and retail trade sales volume increased by 2.6 percent.
In monthly changes, the automotive group remained outside the general trend and continued its decline. The sales volume for the repair and trade of motor vehicles and motorcycles decreased by 2.9 percent in March compared to the previous month.
