Increase in the number of vehicles registered to traffic: Which car brand is the most common?

While motorcycles and cars made up the majority of vehicles registered to traffic in Turkey in May, the total number of registered vehicles reached 32.18 million.

Increase in the number of vehicles registered to traffic: Which car brand is the most common?

In May, an increase was observed in the number of vehicles newly registered to traffic compared to the previous month. While there was a notable rise, particularly in the motorcycle and car segments, some vehicle types saw a decrease. Motorcycles increased by 12.8 percent, cars by 8.4 percent, tractors by 5.9 percent, buses by 5.1 percent, small trucks by 3.3 percent, and trucks by 3.1 percent. In contrast, a decrease of 28.8 percent was recorded in special-purpose vehicles and 5.9 percent in minibuses.

On an annual basis, the picture was different. While there was an increase in minibuses and small trucks compared to the same month last year, a decline was noted in the categories of special-purpose vehicles, tractors, trucks, motorcycles, buses, and cars. Specifically, there was a decline of 50.5 percent in special-purpose vehicles, 30.6 percent in tractors, 16 percent in trucks, 15.4 percent in motorcycles, 10.9 percent in buses, and 2.6 percent in cars.

By the end of May, the number of vehicles registered to traffic across Turkey reached the 32 million 180 thousand level. While cars make up more than half of these vehicles, motorcycles and small trucks also hold a significant share.

In May, a total of 960 thousand 640 vehicle transfers took place. Cars led the transfers with 67.2 percent, followed by small trucks at 14.7 percent, motorcycles at 11.3 percent, tractors at 2.7 percent, trucks at 1.9 percent, minibuses at 1.6 percent, buses at 0.4 percent, and special-purpose vehicles at 0.2 percent.

WHICH CAR BRANDS ARE THE MOST COMMON?

The number of cars registered to traffic in May was recorded as 87 thousand 100. Of these cars, 9.8 percent were Renault, 7.7 percent Volkswagen, 7.2 percent Fiat, 7.1 percent Toyota, 6.7 percent Peugeot, 5.9 percent Hyundai, 5.6 percent BYD, 4.8 percent Opel, 4.5 percent Skoda, and the remainder consisted of other brands.

DECLINE IN REGISTRATIONS FOR THE JANUARY-MAY PERIOD

In the first five months of the year, the total number of vehicles registered to traffic decreased by 15.2 percent compared to the same period last year, falling to 900 thousand 504. In the same period, the number of vehicles deregistered from traffic increased by 64.5 percent to 19 thousand 117. Thus, there was an increase of 881 thousand 387 in the total number of vehicles in traffic.

Of the 435 thousand 480 cars registered to traffic in the January-May period, 47.3 percent were recorded as gasoline, 28.1 percent hybrid, 14.1 percent electric, 9.6 percent diesel, and 0.9 percent LPG. As of the end of May, the total number of cars reached 16 million 667 thousand 473, with 33.5 percent of these vehicles being diesel, 31.2 percent LPG, 30.6 percent gasoline, 3.1 percent hybrid, and 1.5 percent electric. The rate of cars with unknown fuel types was determined to be 0.2 percent.

When looking at engine cylinder volume, 31.3 percent of cars registered in the January-May period had an engine volume of 1300 cc and below, 24.4 percent 1401-1500 cc, 11.2 percent 1501-1600 cc, 10 percent 1301-1400 cc, 8.5 percent 1601-2000 cc, and 0.6 percent had an engine volume of 2001 cc and above.

In terms of color preferences, gray cars stood out. In the first five months of the year, 40.4 percent of registered cars were gray, 25.1 percent white, 12.7 percent black, 11.7 percent blue, 4.6 percent green, 4 percent red, 0.6 percent brown, 0.5 percent yellow, 0.3 percent orange, and 0.1 percent were other colors.
