Indictment against İsmail Arı accepted: Requested sentence revealed

The indictment regarding BirGün newspaper reporter İsmail Arı, who has been detained at Sincan Prison in Ankara for approximately two months, has been approved by the court. The indictment, prepared on the grounds of his news reports and social media posts, demands a total prison sentence ranging from 2 to 6 years for Arı.
Within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Arı has been charged with "publicly disseminating misleading information" and "violating confidentiality." In the indictment, the journalist's remarks, particularly during a program he participated in on BirGün TV, and his social media posts were evaluated as criminal elements.
According to the prosecutor's claim, Arı's statements regarding President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's family, certain foundations, and public resources transferred to these foundations fall under the scope of "disseminating misleading information." While a prison sentence of 1 to 3 years is requested for this charge, there is also a demand for a sentence of 1 to 3 years on the grounds of "violating confidentiality."
Arı has been held in prison for a total of 52 days. The trial is expected to begin in the coming days.
