Indictment prepared against former Ataşehir Mayor Battal İlgezdi
The Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has prepared an indictment against former Ataşehir Mayor Battal İlgezdi. The indictment alleges that he abused his office and failed to implement demolition orders issued for five properties due to violations of the Zoning Law. A prison sentence of up to 7 years is being sought for İlgezdi and other suspects.
The prepared indictment states that certain structures in the district were in violation of the Zoning Law, and that for some of them, it was decided to take action under Article 32 of the law regarding unlicensed and non-compliant structures.
An investigation was launched following allegations that the named individuals failed to comply with the decision, did not fulfill their duties, and abused their authority. The statements taken from the suspects during the investigation phase were also included in the indictment.
The indictment also noted that the defenses provided were not credited as they were deemed attempts to evade criminal liability. It was stated in the indictment that the suspects did not implement the demolition orders issued in 2021 regarding 5 properties.

DEMAND FOR UP TO 7 YEARS IN PRISON
The indictment requests that Battal İlgezdi, Cenan Arslan, Kalender Özdemir, and Mahmut Murt be sentenced to between 1 year and 9 months and 7 years in prison for the crime of 'Abuse of office'.
The indictment, which also requests a prison sentence of 1 to 4 years for suspect Mahmut Benli for the same crime, has been accepted by the Anatolian Criminal Court of First Instance.
