Individual who damaged Atatürk bust with an axe apprehended
In Erzurum, 39-year-old Yusuf E., who damaged an Atatürk bust in a school courtyard with an axe, has been apprehended by police. The incident occurred at the Yıldızkent Borsa İstanbul Middle School in the Palandöken district. Acting on a report, police teams caught the suspect along with the weapon used in the crime. The Atatürk bust has been taken into protective custody following an investigation.
The incident occurred yesterday at approximately 21:00 in the Palandöken district. A report made to the 112 Emergency Call Center stated that an individual with a backpack had jumped over the garden wall of the Yıldızkent Borsa İstanbul Middle School in the Hüseyin Avni Ulaş neighborhood and damaged the Atatürk bust with an axe in his hand. Acting on the report, police reviewed security camera footage and determined that a maroon-colored vehicle had left the vicinity of the school.

The teams identified the suspect as Yusuf E. and began searching for the vehicle seen on camera. The Palandöken Crime Research and Investigation teams broadcast the location of the suspect vehicle to all units via radio.

APPREHENDED WITH THE AXE
The Yunus motorcycle police teams attached to the Public Security Branch Directorate apprehended Yusuf E. above the Abdurrahman Gazi Cemetery with the axe used in the crime. Yusuf E. was taken to the Yenişehir Police Station for questioning. Meanwhile, the Atatürk bust was taken into protective custody following an investigation.
