Individual who insulted Atatürk detained

M.H.Y. (20), who was detained in Istanbul on charges of insulting Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Republic of Turkey, and the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) via social media, has been arrested by the court.

APPREHENDED IN BAHÇELİEVLER

Teams from the Istanbul Police Department's Counter-Terrorism Branch apprehended M.H.Y. in Bahçelievler on October 18 for allegedly insulting state officials and institutions on his social media account.

Following the completion of police procedures, the suspect was referred to the courthouse. After providing his statement to the court, the suspect was arrested and sent to prison.

STATEMENT FROM ALİ YERLİKAYA

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya made the following statement on his social media account:

"It has been determined that an individual posting on a social media account insulted the founder of our Republic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, our President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, our state, and our Turkish Armed Forces. It was identified by our Istanbul Counter-Terrorism Branch that this individual, who was also engaging in separatist terrorist organization (BTÖ) propaganda, is 20-year-old M.H.Y. The individual was apprehended in Bahçelievler and taken into custody, and the digital materials belonging to the individual have been seized. We will never allow those who try to sow seeds of hatred and enmity among our people to thrive. We will catch these cyberbullies who spew their poison in the cyber world one by one."
