Internship period in retirement: Critical legislative proposal in Parliament

A study regarding the inclusion of internship or apprenticeship periods in the retirement start date, which concerns millions of people in Turkey, has reached Parliament.

NOT COUNTED BECAUSE NO PREMIUMS ARE PAID DURING INTERNSHIPS: WILL IT CHANGE?

Because no retirement-related premiums are paid to the Social Security Institution (SGK) for individuals who completed internships during high school, the internship period is not counted as the SGK start date.

Hatay MP Nermin Yıldırım Kara has submitted a legislative proposal to Parliament to change this situation.

The proposal emphasizes that the internship period should be the determining date for retirement.

WHAT DOES THE LEGISLATIVE PROPOSAL SAY?

According to the information contained in the Bill on Amending the Social Insurance and General Health Insurance Law, the following information was provided:

"The apprenticeship and internship periods of candidate apprentices, apprentices, students receiving vocational training in businesses, students subject to internships during vocational and technical secondary education and higher education, students receiving supplementary training or field training during vocational and technical secondary education, scholarship holders working in projects supported by public institutions and organizations, and students employed part-time subject to Article 46 of the Higher Education Law" and "For those listed in clause (k) of the first paragraph of Article 41 as of the effective date of this article, for apprenticeship, internship, and training periods prior to the effective date of this article, provided that they apply within 3 months and pay the debts, if the periods prior to the insured's start date are subject to debt, the start date of insurance is moved back by the number of days for which the debt is paid. If the periods after the insured's start date are subject to debt, they are added to the insurance period."
