Investigation launched into Ebubekir Sofuoğlu by his university

In a statement released by SAÜ, it was recalled that Sofuoğlu, who has frequently made headlines due to his social media posts, had previously received a reprimand for "engaging in attitudes and behaviors contrary to general morality and decency, and failing to fulfill the duty of care required by his title."

It was stated that another investigation opened against Sofuoğlu is continuing as both a disciplinary and criminal investigation.

The statement further noted that an investigation has also been launched regarding the comments Sofuoğlu made on his social media accounts concerning the brutal murder of two young women, and the following was recorded:

"The murder of our two young women, 19-year-old İkbal Uzuner and Ayşenur Halil, on October 4, 2024, has caused deep sorrow at our university. First and foremost, we share the pain of the families of the girls who lost their lives and extend our condolences."

It was stated that this latest investigation marks the fourth time an investigation has been opened against Sofuoğlu.

Following the brutal murder of İkbal Uzuner and Ayşenur Halil by Semih Çelik, while public debate regarding the incident continued, Ebubekir Sofuoğlu's remarks about the murdered Uzuner, stating, "If she had been raised with Islamic sensitivity, she would never have met this killer who was a non-mahram to her," drew significant backlash.
