Investigation launched into fast food chain that denied entry to mother and daughter

Allegations had surfaced that a mother and her daughter were denied entry to the Burger King Tarabya branch in Istanbul on the grounds that they "looked poor."

Following the controversial incident, the Ministry of Trade took action.

Ministry of Trade Press Advisor Bekir Kaplan announced in a statement on his social media account that an investigation into the matter has been launched. Kaplan stated, "We are closely following your posts and messages regarding the alleged 'customer discrimination and refusal of service' at a hamburger chain restaurant. The sensitivity shown by each of our citizens on this issue is a clear indicator of how strong our social conscience is. We thank you for this sensitivity. It is unacceptable for any of our citizens to be subjected to discrimination based on their economic status, appearance, or any other reason. The matter is being followed by our Ministry of Trade. Necessary investigation and inspection processes are being carried out, and a detailed statement and update regarding the developments will be shared with the public as soon as possible."
