Investigation launched into 'profane' post from IMM account

An ex officio investigation has been launched regarding the profane quote-tweet of Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek's "We succeeded" post from the official transportation account of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) on the social media platform X.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an ex officio investigation into the profane quote-tweet of Minister of Treasury and Finance Şimşek's post from the social media account named "Ulaşım İstanbul @ulasimistanbul," which is the official transportation account of the IMM.

INSULTING A PUBLIC OFFICIAL

It was learned that the investigation was initiated on the charges of "insulting a public official due to their duty" and "publicly degrading the Government of the Republic of Turkey."

The IMM had previously made a statement regarding the matter: “Our account has been subjected to a cyberattack, and it has been determined that content not belonging to us was published.

We would like to inform you that we have brought the process under control and have strengthened our security measures.”

Following the controversial post, the IMM Department of Transportation stated the following in its announcement:

"Dear Followers;

Our account has been subjected to a cyberattack, and it has been determined that content not belonging to us was published. We would like to inform you that we have brought the process under control and have strengthened our security measures."
