Investigation launched into business owner selling 'martyr scent'! Fine imposed

In a video that surfaced on social media, a man with a religious appearance announced that he was selling 'Martyr scent,' 'Badr scent,' and 'Payitaht scent.' The individual, who also stated that he sells 'Mevlana scent,' directed those who wanted to place orders from a distance to WhatsApp.

Following the viral footage, the Ministry of Trade examined the complaints regarding the business, and a fine was imposed on the establishment.

FINE IMPOSED ON THE BUSINESS

Deputy Minister of Trade Mahmut Gürcan announced that a fine had been imposed on the business selling the perfume it named 'Martyr Scent.'

In a statement regarding the matter on his social media account, Gürcan shared the following:

“An ex officio investigation has been launched by our Ministry regarding the expressions such as ‘We prepared it from martyr scent’ found on the Instagram account named ‘selamesans_selamcarsaf,’ which has been the subject of news on various social media platforms and websites, and the following actions have been taken. Due to the exploitation of the society's national and spiritual sensitivities, a decision was made by the Advertising Board to provisionally suspend the aforementioned advertisements for a period of 3 months, and this decision was served in person to the relevant individual through the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Trade. The posts in question will be discussed on 8/10/2024, the date of the Advertising Board's first meeting, and an administrative fine of 550 thousand 59 TL, as stipulated in Article 77/12 of Law No. 6502, may be applied to the advertiser. Furthermore, an administrative fine of 52 thousand 800 TL was imposed by the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Trade due to non-compliances detected during an inspection carried out today at the advertiser's workplace within the scope of the ‘Price Tag’ legislation in Article 54 of the Law on the Protection of Consumers No. 6502.”
