Iran's interim President Mokhber: 'The incident will not create a power vacuum in the administration'

According to the Iranian Borna News Agency, Mokhber spoke at a cabinet meeting regarding the helicopter crash that caused Raisi's death.

Mokhber said, "The incident is very heavy for the state, the nation, and the country's leader (Ali Khamenei). But this significant event will not create any vacuum in the administration under the leadership of the leader (Khamenei). The public should be assured of this."

Addressing government officials, Mokhber stated that they must not show any weakness in fulfilling their duties under any circumstances.

THE HELICOPTER CRASH AND ITS AFTERMATH

President Raisi attended a dam inauguration ceremony on the Iran-Azerbaijan border yesterday. Raisi was involved in a helicopter crash while returning to the country, along with Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and several other officials.

Upon Iran's request, Turkey deployed an Akıncı unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for search and rescue operations. The coordinates of the helicopter wreckage identified by the Akıncı UAV were shared with Iranian authorities.

Iranian teams that reached the identified location determined that there were no survivors from the crash.

Following the confirmation of Raisi's death, First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber was appointed as the interim President.

According to the Iranian Constitution, a council consisting of the Parliament Speaker, the Judiciary Chief, and the First Vice President must make the necessary arrangements to elect a new president within a maximum of 50 days.

In Iran, presidents are elected by the public from among candidates approved by the Guardian Council.
