Is the investigation into IMM and ABB due to Erdoğan's potential re-election bid? 'They want to regain access to resources'

Journalist and author Murat Yetkin commented on the concert investigations launched into the IMM and ABB, stating, "The successive investigations opened against İmamoğlu and Yavaş also aim to make things easier for Erdoğan should he run for re-election."

IS THE GOAL A RE-ELECTION BID?

Yetkin sought an answer to the question, "Is the path to re-election being paved for Erdoğan by trying to eliminate his rivals through the wear and tear of investigations?" 

Stating that "on one hand, the investigations, and on the other, the pressure from the Ministry of Labor, are both discrediting Yavaş and leaving the ABB under the threat of a trustee," Yetkin noted the following:

"The shift of metropolitan municipalities, especially Istanbul and Ankara, from the AK Party to the CHP has led to the cutting off of resources that the AK Party used to transfer to its voter base, including religious communities and sects, through these municipalities. It appears the People's Alliance wants to regain access to these resources before the election cycle begins.

The move to launch financial investigations into CHP-run municipalities as a political threat also has this dimension."
