İsmail Saymaz breaks his silence: Announces his appeal was rejected

Journalist İsmail Saymaz, who was placed under house arrest as part of the investigation launched into the Gezi Park protests, has broken his weeks-long silence with a statement made on his social media account.

In his post, Saymaz stated, "I have finally regained access to my backup SIM card and my account. Today is my 38th day under house arrest. Unfortunately, our appeal against the house arrest and the electronic tag was rejected. During this process, two separate investigations and one lawsuit have been opened against me," he said.

Here is İsmail Saymaz's post:

"Hello again.

I have finally regained access to my backup SIM card and my account.

Today is my 38th day under house arrest…

Unfortunately, our appeal against the house arrest and the electronic tag was rejected.

During this process, two investigations and one lawsuit have been opened against me.

I would like to provide information regarding these:

GEZI: I am accused of aiding in the attempt to overthrow the government within the scope of the Gezi events. A prison sentence of 15 to 20 years is being sought. Within the scope of this investigation, a house arrest measure and a travel ban are being applied. Additionally, my two passports have been cancelled.

CHP CONVENTION: I was included in the Ankara CHP convention investigation based on the slanders of a slanderer. These slanders were accepted as true, and my accounts were examined without my statement being taken. Information unrelated to the allegation of irregularity at the convention is being used for character assassination. Since I am under house arrest, I am waiting for my statement to be taken.

KJ LAWSUIT: A lawsuit was filed against me at the Bakırköy Courthouse for spreading misleading information to the public due to statements that appeared on the lower third (KJ) during a broadcast on Halk TV. I could not attend the first hearing due to house arrest. Meanwhile, multiple investigations against me are ongoing at the Bakırköy Courthouse press prosecutor's office.

Thank you for all your messages of support and solidarity."
