Istanbul Bar Association elects its new president

The voting process has begun in the election for the presidency of the Istanbul Bar Association, where 12 candidates are competing.

On the second day of the general assembly held at the Haliç Congress Center, voting for the bar presidency began at 09:00.

In the bar association, where 64 thousand 72 lawyers are eligible to vote, lawyers have been arriving at the congress center since early hours to cast their ballots.

Officials appointed by the Beyoğlu District Election Board are stationed at 161 ballot boxes. Lawyers go to the ballot boxes where they are registered, receive sealed envelopes from the officials, and cast their votes behind the privacy screens.

Brochures containing the names of the candidates are being distributed by authorized personnel around the election area.

The "Önce İlke Çağdaş Avukatlar Grubu" (Principle First Contemporary Lawyers Group) stands out as the only group participating in the election with two candidates, as both the current Bar President Filiz Saraç and Vice President Ali Gürbüz are running.

Hasan Kılıç from the "Avukatın Yükselişi Hareketi Grubu" (Lawyer's Rise Movement Group), Mert Er Karagülle from the "Değişim İçin Güçlü Baro Grubu" (Strong Bar for Change Group), Turgay Bilge from the "Avukat Hakları Grubu" (Lawyer Rights Group), Türkan Kara from the "Genç Hukuk Hareketi Grubu" (Young Law Movement Group), Metin Uraçin from the "İstanbul Avukatlar Birliği Grubu" (Istanbul Lawyers Union Group), Abdülhalim Yılmaz from the "Bağımsız Avukatlar Grubu" (Independent Lawyers Group), İbrahim Özden Kaboğlu from the "Değişim İçin Avukatlar Grubu" (Lawyers for Change Group), and Hakan Çatak from the "İstanbul Milliyetçi Avukatlar Grubu" (Istanbul Nationalist Lawyers Group) are competing to become president. Yasin Şen and Savaş İşleyen are participating in the presidential election as independent candidates.

The voting process will continue until 17:00.
