Reaction from the Istanbul Bar Association to Can Atalay: 'From now on, we cannot speak of the existence of legal security for any individual in our country'

Following the decisions made by the Constitutional Court and the Court of Cassation regarding TİP MP Can Atalay, all eyes had turned to Parliament. Under the chairmanship of Bekir Bozdağ, who took over the duty from Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, the parliamentary status of TİP Hatay MP Can Atalay was revoked.

ISTANBUL BAR ASSOCIATION: "UNFORTUNATELY, WE DID NOT EXPECT OTHERWISE"

In a statement released on its official website regarding the matter, the Istanbul Bar Association said, "We share with the public that we will stand against lawlessness with all our might and will fight to make the rule of law prevail in the country."

The full statement from the Bar Association is as follows:

"With the reading of the conviction decision against our colleague, Attorney Ş. Can Atalay, in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey today, after the Court of Cassation disregarded the Constitutional Court's decision more than once, we have now seen it being ignored by the legislative body despite the clear provision of the Constitution. As we have emphasized repeatedly, from now on, we cannot speak of the existence of legal security for any individual in our country. Despite all this, as the Istanbul Bar Association, we share with the public that we will stand against lawlessness with all our might and will fight to make the rule of law prevail in the country."
