Istanbul, one of the most visited cities in the world, broke an all-time record in 2023 by hosting 17 million 370 thousand 30 foreign visitors.

According to data published on the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's website, the number of foreign visitors arriving in Istanbul increased by 8.44% compared to the previous year.
Last year, with 17 million 370 thousand 30 foreign visitors arriving in Istanbul, the Russian Federation became the country with the most visitors, with 1 million 990 thousand 226 visitors.
This was followed by Germany (1 million 286 thousand 504), Iran (1 million 53 thousand 638), and the USA (853 thousand 766), respectively. The USA was followed by the United Kingdom (701 thousand 361), Saudi Arabia (604 thousand 509), and France (589 thousand 149).
71.78% of foreign visitors arriving in Istanbul, totaling 12 million 177 thousand 784 people, preferred Istanbul Airport. Sabiha Gökçen Airport ranked second with 28.12%, preferred by 4 million 771 thousand 157 people.
In 2023, the number of foreign visitors arriving in Istanbul by air was 16 million 964 thousand 432, while the number of visitors arriving by sea was 405 thousand 598.
