Istanbul Governor's Office announces: Adverse weather conditions claim a life in Istanbul

The Istanbul Governor's Office has listed the incidents that occurred following the adverse weather conditions in the city. One person lost their life due to a collapsing pole.

The statement from the Governor's Office is as follows:

"The incidents that occurred in Istanbul due to heavy rain and storms as of 13:00 on 29.11.2023 are listed as follows:

Flights at Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gökçen Airport are continuing as planned. 

A total of 17 voyages, including 7 by İDO and 5 by BUDO, have been canceled due to adverse weather conditions, and the Bosphorus has been closed to traffic in both directions.

Our teams have intervened in a total of 148 incidents across Istanbul, including 9 cases of flooding, 27 roofs blown off, 43 fallen trees, 1 landslide, 66 cases of hazardous debris, and 2 collapsed poles. 

At 01:07, a fuel-laden ship named 'Kadriye Ana' ran aground near the shore on the Zeytinburnu coast of Bakırköy district, and the ship's crew was evacuated by Coast Guard teams. There were no injuries or loss of life in the incident. 

STORM CLAIMS A LIFE

At 02:44, a citizen who was injured as a result of a pole collapsing on Büyükdere Street in the Emniyet Evleri neighborhood of Kağıthane district lost their life at the hospital where they were taken. 

At 10:42, as a result of a landslide that occurred in a construction area on Gaziosmanpaşa Street in the Esentepe neighborhood of Eyüpsultan district, 3 shanty houses were evacuated as a precautionary measure, and the citizens living in the houses were placed in hotels and guesthouses."
