Istanbul University says 'Imamoglu enrolled outside of quota': Reasons for cancellation announced
Istanbul University has become the center of attention following the cancellation of diplomas for 28 individuals, including Ekrem Imamoglu, as the grounds for these decisions have emerged. The justifications allege that the individuals whose diplomas were revoked performed their lateral transfer procedures under the name of Eastern Mediterranean University instead of Girne American University, where they actually studied. It was also determined that some individuals had 'FF' grades on their transcripts and did not meet the requirements for transfer.
Istanbul University's decision yesterday to revoke the diplomas of 28 people, including Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, hit the public agenda like a bombshell, and the reasons behind the university's decision have now emerged.
The grounds for cancellation include allegations that the individuals in question enrolled outside of the quota and performed their lateral transfer procedures under the name of Eastern Mediterranean University instead of Girne American University, where they were enrolled. On the other hand, information was shared that some individuals had low grade point averages, had "FF" grades on their transcripts, and did not meet the requirements for lateral transfer.

It was alleged that Imamoglu enrolled at Istanbul University outside of the quota and performed his lateral transfer procedure under the name of Eastern Mediterranean University instead of Girne American University, where he studied.

Prof. Dr. Naciye Aylin Ataay Saybasili, a faculty member in the Department of Business Administration at Galatasaray University, was also among those whose diplomas were revoked; it was determined that her father was a lecturer at the Istanbul University Faculty of Business Administration at the time of her lateral transfer and that she did not meet the general requirements for lateral transfer.
It was stated that Mustafa Arturuk, who is among those whose diplomas were revoked, had his application accepted outside of the lateral transfer period and had studied for one semester at a university in England, and that these circumstances were contrary to the lateral transfer regulations.
It was determined that Melihsah Ozcan from Eastern Mediterranean University had a grade point average of "1.78," and Sevgi Toprak, who came from the Swiss American College, had an average of "1.89." Additionally, it was found that Toprak had 1 "FF" grade on her transcript.
It was determined that Orhan Kuray, whose diploma was revoked, had registered his transfer to the Istanbul University registry under the name of Eastern Mediterranean University, even though he had studied at Girne American University.
It was stated that Kuray's grade point average was "2.00," he had 1 "FF" on his transcript, and his diploma was revoked for these reasons.
Among the reasons for the revocation of Ahmet Selim Guner's diploma were a "0.90" grade point average, having 4 "FF" grades on his transcript, and registering his transfer to the Istanbul University registry under the name of Eastern Mediterranean University despite having studied at Girne American University.
It was learned that Banu Yali's diploma was revoked due to a "1.75" grade point average, and Sinan Esat Erdil's diploma was revoked because he did not meet the lateral transfer requirements due to a "1.86" grade point average and having studied for only 1 semester.
Cenk Karayel's diploma was revoked due to a "1.87" grade point average and 1 "FF" grade.
It was determined that Ergun Bargu, who is also among those whose diplomas were revoked, had a grade point average of "1.77" and had 2 "FF" grades.
MORE DIPLOMA REVOCATIONS MAY FOLLOW
On the other hand, it was reported that all lateral transfer procedures at the Faculty of Business Administration at Istanbul University between 1987 and 1993 will be examined in detail.
