It had become a trending topic on social media: Statement on the 'tortured Turkish child' claim in the Epstein scandal

The Directorate of Communications has announced that the footage shared in connection with the Epstein files, which includes the claim that a "tortured Turkish child says 'I'm sorry Arthur'", does not reflect the truth.

While documents related to the Jeffrey Epstein case continue to remain on the global agenda, it has been stated that the video circulating on social media titled "Tortured Turkish child" is baseless.

The Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM), affiliated with the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, stated that the footage circulated with the claim that a "tortured Turkish child says 'I'm sorry Arthur'" does not reflect the truth.

In a post made on the DMM's social media account, the following information was provided regarding the content in question:

"The footage subject to the claim belongs to an old incident that was reported in the Brazilian press in January 2021. Reports in the Brazilian press stated that the incident was a case of a father committing violence against his child in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, and it was understood that the child was speaking Portuguese. This footage has no connection to Turkey or a Turkish child.

The content in question has been brought up before and was debunked by our Center for Combating Disinformation. The recirculation of old and decontextualized footage intended to mislead the public is a deliberate disinformation attempt. We kindly ask you to be sensitive and careful against such baseless claims."

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

The footage in question began to be shared on the X platform with the claim that a "tortured Turkish child says 'I'm sorry Arthur'" following the release of new documents regarding billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, who was accused of establishing a sexual abuse and prostitution ring targeting underage girls in the US and who died in prison while in custody.

Epstein, who was being tried on charges of establishing a sexual abuse and prostitution ring for numerous girls as young as 14, was found dead in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan, New York, on August 10, 2019.

The court documents released to the public included the names of many well-known figures such as Prince Andrew, US President Donald Trump, former US President Bill Clinton, former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, former US Vice President Al Gore, actor Kevin Spacey, singer Michael Jackson, illusionist David Copperfield, lawyer Alan Dershowitz, and former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson.
