WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

An armed attack was carried out on Semih Tufan Gülaltay's office in Istanbul's Maltepe district on May 26, 2022, around 03:20, by a person named Furkan Taş. Furkan Taş first fired his weapon at a vehicle parked in front of the office. Önder Erkut, Gülaltay's driver who was at the workplace, returned fire. Taş lost his life at the scene after being hit by bullets. A lawsuit was filed at the Istanbul Anatolian Courthouse regarding Taş's death.

The investigation into the attack was completed in July 2023. The Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office filed a lawsuit against 10 people, including Sedat Peker. The indictment alleged that the attacker, Furkan Taş, was in contact with Peker's men. The indictment claimed that Peker established an organization for the purpose of committing crimes and instructed organization members to kill Gülaltay. It was also noted in the indictment that the act remained at the attempt stage. A prison sentence of 15 to 27 years was requested for Peker for the crimes of “establishing and managing a criminal organization” and “attempted intentional homicide.”

Apart from the file at the Istanbul 16th High Criminal Court, Peker also has a file at the Bursa 5th High Criminal Court.
