İYİ Party Group Deputy Chairman Turhan Çömez speaks to 12punto: 'He knows he cannot convince women, he knows his power is slipping away'

The university diploma of IMM Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu had been cancelled, and following the diploma cancellation, a detention warrant was issued for him this morning.

Following the decision to detain İmamoğlu, his colleagues, and many journalists, reactions from politicians are growing steadily.

“THE POLLS ON HIS DESK INDICATE THAT IT IS NO LONGER POSSIBLE FOR HIM TO BE ELECTED”

Speaking to 12punto, İYİ Party Group Deputy Chairman Turhan Çömez said that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is making every move to extend his presidency:

“Erdoğan wants to eliminate potential rivals by bending and twisting the constitution. He sees the country as consisting only of the ballot box, but for rivals to compete, the media, civil society organizations, and universities must be free and independent. Erdoğan is aware of the reaction against him on the streets. The polls on his desk indicate that it is no longer possible for him to be elected.”

“ERDOĞAN NOW CLEARLY SEES THAT THE BALLOT BOX IS SLIPPING AWAY FROM HIM”

Emphasizing that President Erdoğan is also aware that he is losing votes, Çömez stated, “He is aware that he cannot consolidate his own base, and especially that he cannot convince women. In short, Erdoğan now clearly sees that the ballot box is slipping away from him. Therefore, the only thing he can do is to conduct operations against opposition parties and eliminate his potential rivals.”

İYİ Party Group Deputy Chairman Turhan Çömez concluded his remarks by stating that they will stand on the side of democracy and are determined to save Turkey from the one-man regime.
