Joint move by all political parties against violence against women: Commission motion to be submitted

Following a series of reports of violence and brutality against women, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey has taken action. A commission will be established to investigate violence against women. 

JOINT MOTION TO BE SUBMITTED

A joint motion will be submitted today in the TBMM General Assembly by the AKP, CHP, DEM Party, MHP, İYİ Party, and Saadet Party groups to establish a research commission on combating violence against women.

Çiğdem Erdoğan, Chair of the TBMM Committee on Equal Opportunity for Women and Men, will provide an assessment of their work regarding violence against women during the deliberations on the motion. Speeches to be made on behalf of the groups will also convey the political parties' views on preventing violence against women.

The research commission, which is planned to be established by a decision to be taken in the General Assembly, will conduct studies on issues such as the recent rise in violent incidents and their social impacts, urgent measures that need to be taken to prevent violence against women, the prevention of mobbing against women in professional life, and the robust protection of women's rights. At the end of its work, the research commission will prepare a report and submit it to the Parliamentary General Assembly.
