Joint press statement from Ümit Özdağ and İmamoğlu: Emphasis on separatism
Union of Municipalities of Turkey (TBB) and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu visited Victory Party (Zafer Partisi) Chairman Ümit Özdağ.
Following the meeting held at the Victory Party Headquarters, Özdağ and İmamoğlu made a statement.
İmamoğlu stated that they would compile the work they have done as the TBB into a file and share it with political parties.
Touching upon the development of democracy, İmamoğlu continued as follows:
"We have full faith that the establishment of a mechanism where the right to vote and be elected is not interrupted and where there is no loss of trust contributes to this journey. It is valuable that certain attitudes and behaviors we do not wish to see are absent in the implementation of the process regarding the appointment of trustees, and that the municipal council is not ignored following a removal from office based on the principle of personal liability for crimes and punishments, and that the legal process is carried out in stages as it should be, including elections within the council."
Expressing that politicians should not use language that provokes, angers, or pits society against one another, İmamoğlu said that reactions or support should also remain within the bounds of democracy.

"WE ARE AT THE POINT OF REMOVAL FROM OFFICE BY JUDICIAL DECISION"
Ümit Özdağ also stated that local democracy is very important, but that they are against it being used as a tool for "separatism."
Stating that Turkey must protect itself against terrorist organizations and those who align with them, Özdağ expressed that the state must be defended within the framework of the law.
Reporting that they added a clause to the protocol they signed with former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu stating that the institution of trustees is necessary but must be implemented through judicial channels, Özdağ said, "Today, we are at the point that mayors determined to be linked to terrorism should only be removed from office by a judicial decision."
Özdağ noted that the removal of Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer from office should also have been carried out in a manner befitting the state and by a judicial decision.
