Joint statement for Palestine from all universities in Turkey
The Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and 208 universities in Turkey have issued a joint statement in 3 languages, condemning Israel's attacks on Palestine.
YÖK stated in the declaration that "the Turkish academic community strongly condemns Israel's recent escalation of inhumane attacks against the Palestinian people, including the targeting of the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital yesterday, which resulted in the death and injury of hundreds of Palestinian civilians, including babies, children, and women."
The statement expressed condolences to all Palestinians who lost their lives in the attacks, wished a speedy recovery to the injured, and emphasized that the pain of the Palestinian people is shared.
Noting that there is a clear violation of international law and the principles of international humanitarian law, the statement called for an immediate end to all attacks and acts of violence.
The declaration included the following statement: "We support the diplomatic initiatives undertaken by Turkey based on a two-state vision to establish lasting peace in the region. In this context, we declare that as an academic community, we are ready to fulfill every responsibility that falls upon us."
The statement was published in Turkish, Arabic, and English.
